Hollywood's Hidden Secrets: Spirit Channeling and the Performances We Love

Have you ever wondered how actors deliver performances so powerful they transcend the screen? For some, it goes far beyond method acting or traditional preparation. According to claims made by several actors, there’s something unusual happening—something much more spiritual.

This blog explores the controversial idea that some Hollywood actors channel spiritual entities or forces to elevate their roles. From accounts of possession-like experiences to ancient practices intertwined with creative expression, these stories reveal a darker side of entertainment.

What Is Spirit Channeling?

Spirit channeling, often linked to mediumship, is the process of allowing a spirit or entity to take control of a person. There are two types: intentional channeling and spontaneous channeling.

  • Intentional channeling occurs when a person actively seeks to connect with spirits, granting them permission to enter their body.
  • Spontaneous channeling happens without warning, with the spirit taking control of the individual at unexpected moments.

Religious texts like the Bible often equate spirit channeling to demonic possession. It describes channeling as consulting with familiar or evil spirits, and many believe such practices defile the human soul.

But what happens when this concept meets the glitz and glamour of Hollywood? Some actors have openly discussed tapping into spiritual energies—or even being “possessed”—to perfect their roles.

Denzel Washington And Malcolm X: When Preparation Crosses A Line

Denzel Washington’s portrayal of Malcolm X is widely celebrated as one of the greatest performances in film history. But how did he channel such raw energy and authenticity? According to Spike Lee, who directed Malcolm X, something extraordinary happened on set.

Lee detailed a moment during production when Washington went off-script, delivering an unscripted monologue that lasted five minutes. Strangely, the words were not in the script, yet they felt profound, arguably more powerful than Malcolm X’s actual speeches.

When asked about the moment, Denzel allegedly replied, “I don’t know.” Lee interpreted this as Malcolm X’s spirit working through Denzel. Washington’s year-long preparation for the role—learning Arabic, studying Malcolm’s life, and adopting his lifestyle—put him in a spiritual state, making him feel like a “vessel” for the late leader.

Nicolas Cage: Nouveau Shamanism

Nicolas Cage, known for his unconventional acting style, developed a method he calls “nouveau shamanism.” Cage openly draws parallels between ancient shamans and modern actors, suggesting their roles are not entirely different.

Shamans in pre-Christian societies would wear masks, perform rituals, and embody spirits to find answers for their community. Similarly, Cage explained how he uses artifacts, symbolism, and physical preparation to connect with his characters.

For one performance, Cage wore Afro-Caribbean face paint, sewed Egyptian artifacts into his costume, and carried stones believed to have spiritual vibrations. While it’s unclear whether this truly “works,” Cage believes it unlocks something deeper within him, tricking his mind into fully becoming the character.

Shirley MacLaine And Jack Nicholson: Two Voices, One Presence

Shirley MacLaine described a surreal experience working with Jack Nicholson on Terms of Endearment. During a love scene, Nicholson’s voice seemed to split into two separate tones—one human and one otherworldly.

“Two voices came out of you,” she told Nicholson, amazed by what she witnessed. Nicholson casually responded, “Sure, I’m many different people.” MacLaine believed he was “channeling” something beyond himself in that moment.

Taraji P. Henson: Chakras And Spiritual Energy

Taraji P. Henson shared how she opens herself up spiritually to inhabit a character fully. While preparing for her role as Shug Avery in The Color Purple, she practiced chakra exercises to align her energy and invite the character into her body.

This technique mirrors teachings in actor training methods like those outlined in Jade McCutchen’s The Actor as Shaman. The process involves opening and grounding chakras, breathing exercises, and allowing external forces to guide an actor’s performance.

Henson isn’t alone in this practice. Many actors use similar methods to go beyond imitation, aiming to “become” the character on a spiritual level.

Other Actors' Experiences: Channels, Mediums, And Letting Go

Angela Means, best known for her role as Felisha in Friday, described acting as becoming a “medium.” She goes through intense processes, like locking herself in a dark room or staring into a mirror until she feels “something else” take over.

Terrence Howard echoed similar sentiments. He explained that acting requires stepping aside, letting a foreign energy or spirit inhabit your body. He admitted this process is not for the faint-hearted, saying some actors fear losing control or letting go of their true selves.

Howard considers actors “emotional prostitutes,” sacrificing their essence to bring a character to life. It’s both thrilling and terrifying, especially when they can’t shake off the character after filming wraps.

Ancient Philosophy And The Role Of Spirits

History shows that this concept isn’t new. Ancient philosophers like Plato and Socrates spoke about actors being inspired—or possessed—by spiritual forces.

Plato noted that spirits, or “daimons,” acted as intermediaries between gods and mortals. Socrates believed actors channeled these spirits, becoming vessels for creativity and divine expression.

Even Anton LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan, described the Muse as a “demon” guiding creativity. In his book, he warned readers to be open to these entities, as they inspire brilliance but may also consume those who serve them.

A Biblical Perspective

For those with religious beliefs, the idea of spirit channeling is deeply concerning. Biblical passages like Leviticus 19:31 and 20:6 explicitly warn against consulting mediums or inviting spirits. These actions are described as spiritually harmful, often leading people away from faith and into darkness.

Whether one views spirit channeling as a harmless method or something darker, it’s hard to deny its influence. As audience members, we’re impacted by performances that may stem from these practices, intentionally or not.

The Takeaway

Actors often explore extreme methods to create unforgettable performances. But what happens when those methods blur the lines between art and something supernatural? Based on the accounts shared by Denzel Washington, Nicolas Cage, Jack Nicholson, Taraji P. Henson, and others, it’s clear that spiritual practices play a role in Hollywood’s success stories.

Whether divine, demonic, or simply creative tools, the forces behind these performances inspire awe—and controversy. As viewers, it’s worth pondering: are these portrayals driven by talent, or are they channeling something more?

Disney Star Says She Has Gift to Hear and Talk to the Dead: Necromancy and Summoning Demons

Disney Channel star Vanessa Hudgens said she has a gift to hear and talk to dead people. Hudgens, while appearing on the Kelly Clarkson show this past Tuesday, Clarkson asked the 33-year-old star about her new passion in life for the paranormal. She told Clarkson it wasn't a new passion; however, she could hear and speak to spirits for a long time and is just now exposing the public.
Here are some of the quotes from Hudgens's interview with Clarkson:

"I remember getting ready for school when I was eight years old, and there was, like — you know those ducks that, like, is like the duck thing that you pull?" she added. "It's a toy. There was one of those on the dining room table, and I started walking, and it just started, like, going alongside me."
"And I kind of shut it down for a while because it's scary," Hudgens continued. "The unknown is scary, you can't, but I recently was like, no, this is a gift and something that I have the ability to do, so I'm going to lean into it."
Hudgens explained how she recently did what she called her first "real paranormal investigation" with equipment like a "spirit box," which she said basically "scans radio frequencies really quickly."
"The Disney" star shared how it's not a device that should be used in the city and needs to be taken out to the more rural areas, so it doesn't "pick up stations."
"And if you put on AM, it just sounds like static," the star said. "But something about the electricity it creates allows spirits to speak through it."
The superstar actress shared how she and a friend went to a graveyard at night, and we're sitting in front of a tombstone, where she said they both heard something from beyond communicating with them.
Does Vanessa Hudgens's gift come from God, or some other spiritual entities are communicating to her?

Famous Freemason Philosopher and Occultist Manly P. Hall on Ghost

In his book, "Secret Teachers of All Ages," Famous Freemason Philosopher and occultist Manly P. Hall  had this to say:

"The majority of modern mediumistic apparitions are but elemental creatures masquerading through bodies composed of thought substances supplied by the very persons desiring to behold these wraiths of discarnate beings (source)."

So Hall states that these beings aren't departed human souls, but indeed a spirit entity masquerading as that person's departed spirit.

Does The Bible Say That the Dead Can Speak to the Living?

Ecclesiastes 9:5-6

King James Version

5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.

Does The Bible Say That the Dead Can Haunt Houses?

 Job 7:9-10

King James Version

9 As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.

10 He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

Early Christian Theologians on Ghost

Here is what Tertullian had said in his writings as follows:

"You who serve stones, and ye who make image of gold, and silver, and wood, and stones, and serve phantoms, and demons. Tertullian 1.4

What  Tertullian was stating that demons took on the guise of idols, nature spirits,, and phantoms(in which in the Greek is for Ghost).

Treatise of the Soul 1.57 - Magic and sorcery only seem to raise the dead. Only God can really raise the dead. The medium of Endor could not have raised Samuel, it was a trick of her demon. Ghosts can't appear to people, only demons.

Divine Institutes 4.27 - Even the Greek gods flee when the name of Jesus is used. If a god is commanded to tell the truth it confesses that it is a demon. If one calls up Jupiter or one of the other from the dead, they would confess they were men and not gods and that there is only one true God. The spirits that pretend to be them lie.

As we can see from the writings of occultist Manly P Hall, the Bible, and the writings of Early Christian Theologians, one thing that both agree upon is that ghosts are really demon spirits that masquerade as the departed spirits of dead human beings who once lived upon the Earth. These are demonic spirits of deception; their main goal is to deceive mankind and lead people astray from YAH (G-d). Vanessa Hudgens is being deceived by seducing spirits and is truly in need of prayer that she sees the Truth and comes to salvation before being led down a demonic road of deception.
